Knowing that <span class=\"nag-n-override\" style=\"margin-left: 0 !important;\"><i>n<\/i><\/span>AG understand the complexities of making applications run on HPC systems, ENGYS commissioned <span class=\"nag-n-override\" style=\"margin-left: 0 !important;\"><i>n<\/i><\/span>AG to enhance their flagship CFD software, HELYX.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-603 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/nag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/HPC-CaseStudy-Image5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"510\" height=\"510\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"para-sm\">Image:\u00a0Simulation of flow over an oil &amp; gas pipeline component<\/p>\n<div class=\"field field--name-field-paragraph-title field--type-string field--label-hidden field--item\"><span class=\"nag-n-override\" style=\"margin-left: 0 !important;\"><i>n<\/i><\/span>AG helped the provision of real-time visualisation capability<\/div>\n<div class=\"field field--name-field-paragraph-text field--type-text-long field--label-hidden field--item\">\n<p>Key to the application enhancement of HELYX was the development of a client-server communication module to configure, submit and visualise CFD jobs as they run on a remote HPC platform. <span class=\"nag-n-override\" style=\"margin-left: 0 !important;\"><i>n<\/i><\/span>AG helped the provision of real-time visualisation capability to be embedded in HELYX by making use of ParaView and the Visualization Toolkit (VTK). Through this <span class=\"nag-n-override\" style=\"margin-left: 0 !important;\"><i>n<\/i><\/span>AG established best practices for ENGYS and advised on the development of the visualisation component to perform remote parallel rendering on large datasets, with options to use either software rendering or accelerator hardware.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the application enhancement, <span class=\"nag-n-override\" style=\"margin-left: 0 !important;\"><i>n<\/i><\/span>AG also created a script-based solution to streamline the process of deploying the OpenFOAM environment, upon which HELYX is built, on most types of modern HPC systems to host simulations. This helped lower the technical barriers of using the popular open-source simulation package.<\/p>\n<p>As with all projects <span class=\"nag-n-override\" style=\"margin-left: 0 !important;\"><i>n<\/i><\/span>AG worked closely with ENGYS\u2019s team to tailor the HPC integration requirements to precisely match the current development status of HELYX.<\/p>\n<p>The new HPC-based HELYX solution was tested by Dynaflow Research Group, an engineering consulting company based in The Netherlands and specialised in serving Oil &amp; Gas industry customers.
